ISIL Collapse, Good or Bad Sign?
The collapse of the terror organization the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIL) last month led the group to making attempts to regroup in other regions of the world. US State Department coordinator for counterterrorism Nathan A. Sales quoted “We are worried about the rise of IS affiliates globally…We are also seeing it in the Sinai Peninsula, in Egypt, and there have been IS inspired attacks here in the United States, Europe and elsewhere.” Sales said the routing of the group from its territory means governments now face the challenge of identifying, tracking and acting against returning fighters. Sales also said the terror groups continued to give priority to targeting civil aviation, a threat which had been specifically addressed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2396 on foreign terrorist fighters. The resolution, passed on December 21, aims to provide governments with tools to act against returning jihadists fighters from the Middle East by making it mandatory for all UN member states to use Passenger Name Record data and Advanced Passenger Information to stop terrorist travel. Christian holidays: Christmas, the end of the year and the beginning of a new year is a time prone to trouble as history demonstrate: • Pan Am flight 103, December 21th, 1988 • Philippine Airline flight 434, December 11th, 1994 • American Airline flight 063, December 22nd, 2001 • Northwest Airlines flight 253, December 25th, 2009 The phenomenon is attributed to radical Islamic groups dominating global terrorism since the 90' of the previous century. It is a religious based conflict. The World Wide Web has been central to the development of the Information Age and is the primary tool billions of people use to interact on the Internet. Terrorist are using the net to share ideology, recruit new members and even publish manual for new tactics and techniques. The combination of these two phenomena's: radical religious motivation and un-limited information network should lead us to expecting the un-expected very soon!
